Gordon Parks

Born November 30 , 1912 Gordon Roger Alexander Buchanan Park  had a difficult upbringing he lost his mother at age 14, and was left to fend for his own self at 15 . So he did what he could . Gordon parks was an American photographer, musician, writer and film director, who became prominent in U.S. documentary photojournalism in the 1940s through 1970s—particularly in issues of civil rights, poverty and African-Americans—and in glamour photography. Before all of this he was a many things like a waiter or busboy at a restaurant. He got his start when he noticed more portfolios of photographers while working his job as a waiter and became a photographer.


Parks won more than 20 awards in his lifetime some of them are 1941: Awarded a fellowship for photography from the Rosenwald Fund , 1990: Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism, and 2000: The Congress of Racial Equality Lifetime Achievement Award are some of the awards he won. He fought for so many things and still continues to do so through the work of others that carry on his work.


 He will be remembered not only for is photography work but as well as his work with civil rights and standing up for his race as a whole. In his honor and name there is a Gordon Parks Foundation., where people can go and see and experience his work and get a sense of pleasance to get to see his work preserved and in all of it’s glory. They also have the Gordon Parks Museum where many more artifacts along with more art work such as, awards and medals, personal photos, paintings and drawings of Gordon, plaques, certificates, diplomas and honorary doctorates, selected books and articles, clothing, record player, tennis racquet, magazine articles, his collection of Life magazines and other things like some of his camera’s and pictures of him.
